Detroit Innovation Field Trip – Mobility, Smart Cities, Infrastructure, Industry 4.0
One of the hallmarks of InnoQuest is bringing participants to interesting places to see where innovation
happens. Innovation happens in a variety of places, and often the place itself is what inspires new thinking. EDGE led a busload of innovation leaders to Detroit for an inspiring full-day exploring this unique ecosystem, connecting with industry professionals and fostering new connections between the Greater Cleveland and Detroit areas – looking specifically at advances in Mobility, Smart Cities, Infrastructure, and Industry 4.0. Here are some pictures from the day and the agenda.
Highlights included:
- First stop at LIFT Technology: One of the nation’s 16 innovation hubs, which is supported by the
Department of Defense and focuses on the development of advanced lightweight materials
manufacturing technologies. - The fabulous make-over of the Detroit Book Depository building at Michigan Central and Newlab.
- The tour of the NewLab facility with Rich Fahle, which included meeting entrepreneurs and discussing newer initiatives – such as amphibious drones, the Detroit Smart Parking Lab, the forthcoming electrified mile, and Airspace Link, Inc. – which has created a geospatial digital infrastructure platform for companies and governments to manage the airspace between the ground and FAA airspace (i.e., the drone zone).
- Panel discussion on innovation processes with Josh Berg (Magna International) and
Kevin Mull (Bosch USA) – two of the largest Tier 1 suppliers to the auto industry - Connecting with regional leaders, including Christine Longroy, Felipe Perea II, Janine Ward, Sahar Omrani, John Bedz, Hussam Makkiya, Jordan LaFramboise, Roshni Shokar, Rich Fahle, and Andrea Corey.
- A Tour of the city – complements of Colton Dale and Will Butler from the Detroit Regional Partnership.
- Meeting at the College for Creative Studies for a panel discussion with Meaghan Kennedy, Jim Saber,
Ned Staebler, and Olga Stella who addressed the development of the regional ecosystem.
